| Tips
on packaging photos to send for photo restoration services:
Be sure to enclose photographs in plenty of rigid cardboard for
support. The cardboard should be larger than the photos. It is
this rigid support and protection that is the most important.
Cardboard cut up from an old box works fine, though protect the
photo by putting it in a plastic or paper sleeve first.
For framed items, enclose in bubble wrap
and put in a box that provides for at least 3 inches of packing
around the frame. Place masking tape in a criss cross pattern
over the glass, this will keep the glass in place should it be
broken in transit.
Convex photos in the large old frames with convex glass are often
extremely fragile and are less likely to be damaged themselves
if left inside that frame for shipping.
If mailing an envelope, write very clearly in
large letters "DO NOT BEND".
You might want to send them with "delivery confirmation"
for tracking purposes if you send by US Mail try "signature
comfirmation", or use FedEx which gives you a range of shipping
options, all of which are tracked en route, so you always know
exactly where your photo is throughout it's journey. This is good
for peace of mind.
